The second in the Hamishe Cooks, Gracious Homes series was a fascinating and highly enjoyable evening. Participants were spell bound by Pearl Sultan's encyclopedic knowledge of cooking and by her voluminous collection of recipes. Pearl Sultan's fabulous Claremont Salad
1 head cabbage, shredded
1 carrot, sliced
1 red pepper, diced
2 cucumbers, thinly sliced
2 small onions, sliced
Dressing:
12 Tablespoons sugar
1 cup vinegar
6 Tablespoons warm water
1/2 cup + 3 Tablespoons oil
4 - 6 teaspoons salt
3 teaspoons garlic powder
Pour all dressing ingredients together. Pour over vegetables in glass bowl. Marinate 3-4 days.
