92nd St Y Fall Line UpNY CULTURE IS HERE!  EBJC is pleased to have been selected as the Central Jersey regional host of Live from NY's 92nd Street Y, a series of satellite simulcasts featuring some of the biggest names in politics, entertainment, business, sports and journalism. Last year's offerings included Ed Koch, Katie Couric, Gene Wilder, George Soros, Elie Wiesel and Rabbi Shmuley Boteach. EBJC audience members are able to ask questions to the presenters during the broadcast right from our EBJC Ballroom, and, as an added bonus, a lively, moderated discussion follows each presentation. We are eagerly anticipating the recently announced lineup of famous speakers for this year’s programming, so please come and join these extremely thought provoking and dynamic evenings!  These are evenings you will not forget!

Live from the 92nd Street Y Series Off to a Great Start

We had two wonderful simulcasts from the 92nd Street Y this month. Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, the star of Shalom in the Home, was insightful, thought-provoking and funny, and shared some intimate information with his audience. More than 100 people attended the inaugural program.

Equally as exciting was the discussion afterward led by Dr. Cathy Mermelstein, during which there was a lively give-and-take between audience members about personal, family, and synagogue issues.

The question of Holocaust Fatigue was debated by several panelists well versed in the topic:

Daniel Goldhagen, John Roth and Michael Berenbaum, with challenging questions provided by moderator Thane Rosenbaum. One of the first questions chosen during the question and answer period came from one of our EBJC audience members. The discussion time was probably the most memorable part of the evening. Dr. Ronnie Bochner began with remembrances of how his father dealt with his Holocaust experiences. This was followed by riveting personal experiences shared by Ida Turner and Sylvia Stone, as well as children of other Holocaust survivors – which reminded all of us why we must never allow the Holocaust to become trivialized or mocked.

These two 92nd Street Y programs met and surpassed our goals of providing high-quality, thought-provoking evenings from the comfort of EBJC. We are looking forward to finding out what exciting choices will be offered for next year. Come and join us – you‘ll be in for a treat!
