Purim Carnival 2008 Pictures
Recipes from Hamishe Cooks, Gracious Homes Series

Tuesday night's demonstration by Tema Winston of Passover recipes was a delightful gathering devoted to learning new cooking techniques, sharing wonderful recipes, comparing time saving secrets, commiserating over Passover trials and tribulations, an update on the kosher for Passover stick margarine crisis and plain old fashioned fun. It was a joy to be in the gracious and elegantly decorated home of Helene Rosenbaum. Thank you to Tema and Helene for contributing to our community by your volunteer spirit. One of Tema's recipes will shortly be included on the EBJC web site.

The next in the Hamishe Cooks, Gracious Homes series will take place on May 12 at 7:30 pm when Joyce Leavitt will show off the culinary skills for which she garnered local renown, with a demonstration of recipes to enjoy outside. The event will take place in the extraordinary back yard Shangri la of Sandy Lenger

Upcoming: On June 12 at 11:00 am, Sarina Feldman will demonstrate Judeo/Greek fusion cooking in her own gracious kitchen. Sarina grew up in Greece and will introduce us to the foods and cooking techniques of her childhood through a contemporary lens.

Talmud Classes
TALMUD CLASS

Think getting acquainted with the Talmud is not for you? Think again!

Join Judah Landa's Talmud class on Wednesdays at 8:30 PM in the library and listen to the two-thousand year old discussions and debates among the founding sages of traditional Judaism.

New Adult Ed Class
Come to Rabbi Romirowsky's new class
"Everything you wanted to know about Conservative Judaism..."

Offered Wednesday evenings at 7:00 last two classes on 5/14 and 5/28.

This class will offer an overview of the history and development of Conservative Judaism and will help us understand the hallacha and traditions that shape our religious decisions. The purpose of this class is to create a base of knowledge within the congregation upon which to build a strong, inclusive and deeply spiritual community, and to allow for the informed dialogue necessary to do so. We encourage all members to attend so that everyone will be ready as the year progresses, to help plan the future directions of our synagogue.

FAMILY SHABBAT
Introducing…
EBJC’s FAMILY SHABBAT
A family-oriented Shabbat morning the second Saturday of every month.

Tot Shabbat is not just for tots anymore! Due to the overwhelming success of our Tot Shabbat program, we are expanding it to include children through grade school age. From this point forward, the program formerly known as ‘Tot Shabbat’ will be ‘Family Shabbat’. Please join us the second Shabbat of every month to daven, to learn, and most importantly to have fun being Jewish.

Our program format will continue to include three age appropriate Junior Congregation services for children 18-months and up, followed by an invitation to all children to join the congregation in the main sanctuary and participate on the bima for the conclusion of the service.

All suggestions are welcome, and any help is, of course, encouraged as we continue to enhance our programming to meet the needs of all members of our EBJC family.

NEW SIX WEEK LECTURE SERIES

TOPIC: In the beginning—Genesis vs. Science
Presented on Mondays at 8:30 p.m. in the LIBRARY by Judah Landa based in part on his book titled, “In the Beginning Of, A New Look at Old Words.” Copies of the book will be available for purchase at each lecture and may be borrowed from the library. Copies can also be bought via the link to the left. As Amazon.Com affiliates EBJC earns up to 10% of each purchase when going thru the link from our web site. The text of the Torah and the findings of modern science will be compared as they pertain to creation, evolution, the age of the earth, the flood, the exodus, and much more. Careful analysis of various criticisms of the Hebrew Bible will address such questions as did the Bible condone slavery, command genocide against the Canaanites, and much more.
